This is a topic about which I am very passionate. I have helped many women through the painful work of healing from an abusive relationship. Men can be the focus of emotional abuse as well, but we find it is most often women.

Physical and sexual abuse are more easily identified by overt actions. Emotional abuse is much subtler and often harder to pinpoint. Here are some signs you might be in an emotionally abusive relationship:

Does your partner:

Make you feel like all arguments are your fault?

Control the finances and how you spend money?

Make important decisions without you?

Make you feel “crazy” like you are making up problems?

Swear at you or call you names?

Lack empathy for your feelings?

Controls who you spend time with?

Monitor your texts, emails and online activity?

Threaten divorce to manipulate you?

Belittles you and puts you down?

Refuses to talk to you about a particular issue?

Have unpredictable angry outbursts?

If you said yes to any of these questions, you might be in an emotionally abusive relationship. Please contact me for help. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I help people like you regain control of their lives with PTSD counseling. You don’t have to keep living this way. You are way to valuable to be treated poorly. Let’s find a time to get started and bring safety and sanity back to your world.
