Why The Name "Lime Tree" Counseling?

We get asked this question a lot, so we wanted to share the story behind our name.

First we should say that Katie started the practice in 2018, while Nate was still working another full time job. Katie knew she did not want to name the practice “Katie Bailey Counseling” or anything with her name, that’s just not how she rolls.  She knew she wanted a name that was slightly quirky, but not completely weird.

Katie & Nate love the poet Pablo Neruda. He wrote a poem called “A Lemon”. This poem describes the simplicity and beauty of a lemon. The concepts of freshness, beauty, growth, and the joy of creation all resonated with us. So, originally we were going to go with Lemon Tree Counseling. However, as we researched it, we realized there is already a Lemon Tree Counseling.  Trying to be a second Lemon Tree Counseling would be challenging with websites and other detailed things. So, Katie loves all things lime. Just ask our team – she drinks lime seltzer all the time! So, we made the adjustment, and decided on Lime Tree Counseling.

To us, the name indicates growth, fresh starts, and allowing space for new “fruit” in our lives.  That is our hope and mission – that all of our clients would heal from what holds them back, create room for new growth in their lives, and experience the new fruit of healthy relationships, greater peace, and more enjoyment in life!

    Nate & Katie Bailey

Yes, we are married, and yes, we run the business together. We often get asked how we can work together all the time. Well, we actually like being around each other! And truthfully, our work days are fairly seperate. We met in graduate school for counseling, and while in marital therapy class, we had to role play an unhappy couple. We like to say that our real life marriage is better than our fake one!

An Excerpt from “A Lemon” by Pablo Neruda

    Out of lemon flowers
    loosed
    on the moonlight, love’s
    lashed and insatiable
    essences,
    sodden with fragrance,
    the lemon tree’s yellow
    emerges,
    the lemons
    move down
    from the tree’s planetarium

    Delicate merchandise!
The harbors are big with it-
    bazaars
    for the light and the
    barbarous gold.
    We open
    the halves
    of a miracle,
    and a clotting of acids
    brims
    into the starry
    divisions:
    creation’s
    original juices,
    irreducible, changeless,
    alive:
    so the freshness lives on
    in a lemon,
in the sweet-smelling house of the rind,
    the proportions, arcane and acerb.
